The search for knowledge and understanding of how nature works has led the human species to alter its standard of living and behavior. However, very significant changes have occurred in the last 300 years. A systematic way of assessing the reliability of our interpretations of the universe has been developed: the scientific method, which will be discussed at the present talk.
